Can I wash my RV or Camper with Dish Soap?

While browsing online forums I discovered many people choose to wash their RV or other vehicles using Dawn dish soap. Some people proclaiming if its good enough for baby birds it’s good enough for my RV. While this may be true that it has been used to remove oil and contaminants from birds, that is not necessarily what you want to do with the finish on your RV or vehicle. Some of what you may be removing is the protective finish or wax on the vehicle. On the Dawn Dish Soap website there are some frequently asked questions such as, “Can I wash my hands with Dawn?” and can I wash my surfaces/doorknobs/bathroom etc. with Dawn?”. The manufacturer doesn’t even recommend doing so, and explains Dawn is formulated to wash dishes not your hands or other surfaces and recommends the use of products specifically designed for the surfaces you’re cleaning. RV’s leave the factory with a protected gel coat which helps prevent color fade from the sun and elements. You will be best served by choosing a product that is formulated to maintain protective gel coat and wax surfaces. In fact, many products are a wash and wax in one. These products can be used on fiberglass and other vehicle surfaces. There are numerous products on the market which are ideal washing your RV. The one that we use and have used for years is made my Aero Cosmetics. They are not sponsoring this add and I have no affiliation with them.  I have used their product on my cars, motorcycle and RV and it leaves them with a nice shine with no haze. Below is a link to the exact product that I use.
