Wisconsin Dells KOA Campground Review

Wisconsin Dells KOA

On May 14th-16th My wife and two kids joined me on a quick weekend trip to the Wisconsin Dells where we stayed at the KOA Campground. We took our Thor Chateau 22b Class C RV.

Wisconsin Dells KOA Campground Location

The Campground is located at S, 235A Stand Rock Rd, Wisconsin Dells, WI 53965. The location is within a couple miles of the downtown area of the Wisconsin Dells. Being so close was really nice as it is such a short drive to get to the local restaurants, bars and shopping. There was a nice cigar shop in the downtown area as well which was a nice surprise. The downtown area is filled with tchotchke shops, candy stores and quiet a few bars. Most of these bars also sell food. We ate at the Dells Distillery and the food was fantastic! Photos below.

There were several Mexican restaurants in the town as well. There weren’t that many food choices besides the bar food and the Mexican food choices. For a family sit down meal, you may want to venture a bit outside of the downtown area.

Here is a PDF Map of the Wisconsin Dells area. Number 33 is the the pin point of the KOA Campground.

Wisconsin Dells KOA Campground Check in experience

The Wisconsin Dells KOA check in experience was really nice. We arrived on a Friday afternoon around 3PM. There were 4 or 5 employees waiting out front to guide you to a place to park right in front. I was then guided inside to speak with the cashier who provided me with my rear view mirror tag as well as a few coupon books for local area attractions. The cost for my site was $52.68 per night. The check in location is also the camp store. Although small, the camp store did have a cooler with some food and drink offerings. They do not sell alcohol at the camp store so if you want an alcohol drink, bring it with you prior to arrival or pick up at one of the many local gas stations that sell beer, etc.

The photo below shows the front office, store and check in location on a Sunday morning.

Once I had checked in, one of the employees guided me with my RV by golf cart to my assigned campsite which was a really nice experience instead of trying to figure out where to go on our own.

Wisconsin Dells KOA Experience

The campground had a wide variety of RV’s and Campers parked on the campsites. We were on lot 052 and were next to a Class A. The lots are small and somewhat close together but you do have your own concrete slab with a picnic table on it and a fire ring nearby. The fire rings are cleaned out after every guest departs and we were surprised at how clean they were. On Friday night there were golf carts driving around with bundles of wood. All you had to do what ask for some wood and they would charge you credit card on file and leave the wood for you. The wood was $7 a bundle but this was super convenient!

The campground is very clean and well kept. While we were there a large fifth wheel camper was parked at a lot near us. The couple that were staying the camper introduced themselves. They work for KOA and travel around the country doing quality assurance. The fifth wheel was branded from top to bottom with KOA graphics.

Some of the sites have lounge chairs and BBQ grills that you can rent for an extra cost. Photo below of an example of one of these locations as well as some of the cabins that are for rent.

Once you check in and provide your cell phone number the KOA sends you text messages to make you aware of some of the activities that are coming up. While we were there they had a little sports event for the kids in the early afternoon and then at night they had a movie in the pavilion they play through a projector. There were plenty of other kids at the campground and my kids made some friends making their stay exciting. There is also a small playground and a swimming pool at this location.

There are train tracks nearby which I was concerned about as I have stayed at other campgrounds near train tracks and it was extremely loud and the trains would wake me up in the middle of the night. During the day, I could hear a train go by in the background but it wasn’t loud at all and during the night, I didn’t hear a single train go by. All in all this was a very clean campground with nice amenities and in a great location.
